South African President Jacob Bobo was forced to defend his country over the issue of the controversial anti-impotence drug Viagra.
The president’s office said the erectile dysfunction drug, made by Pfizer, has been on sale in South Africa since 1999.

CVS and Walmart are expanding their online store to offer discounts and loyalty cards, according to a new report.
The reports say the move is "very welcome" and "a major step forward in the healthcare industry."

"As of early 2024, non-prescription (NPN) pharmacy has increased by a large percentage, and CVS has increased by a large number of non-prescription stores by a considerable amount, from about 40 to 70 percent," the report said.
According to the report, about 1 million customers in the United States filled over 30,000 prescriptions for Viagra or other similar drugs at CVS and Walmart stores in 2024. The total gross new customers for this year are $8.8 billion, up from $8.3 billion in 2024, the report said.
"In 2024, the number of non-prescription pharmacies increased by about 70 percent to 15,000, while the gross new customers for all non-prescription pharmacies increased by about 40 percent."
The report said CVS stores have also seen an increase in customers from online pharmacies, adding that online pharmacies have seen a rise in purchases in 2024 from CVS and Walmart.
"The overall pharmacy trend for the year is a very encouraging trend for those who are filling prescriptions online, especially those who do not have insurance coverage," the report said. "However, we believe it is important to note that the overall trend in this area continues to be positive, particularly in the male and female populations who are seeking treatment for erectile dysfunction."
The report also notes that some retail pharmacies may be opening their own discount programs or offering loyalty cards to those who have insurance coverage, which could result in lower prices for the drugs.
In an analysis by CVS and Walmart, the report says the number of new online pharmacies in 2024 is up from in 2024.
"For men who already have insurance coverage, and those who are looking for coverage online, our numbers have increased from 614 to 10,000, and for women who do not have insurance, and those who are looking for coverage online, our numbers have increased from 614 to 11,000," the report said.
